Ten Things I Learned at Scarborough Renaissance Festival

Uncategorized

10 May

1  Even if you are an artsy person and have spent your high school and college years performing in plays and hanging out with other artsy people, you will still see some people whose wardrobe choices are so strange that you must hold your mouth closed to keep from staring agape.

 2. When attending such an event, you will be grateful that you took them time to teach your children not to point and stare (see #1)

3. If you sit in the second row of the Adam Crack Fire Whip show, it will be loud, it will be hot, and you will get hit in the head by the flying shrapnel of the things he whips in half.

4. Playing the Mother’s Day card as a way to guilt your sons into dancing around the Maypole will turn out to be the most fun you have all day.

5. Even if it is 95 degrees and you are dripping with sweat, you can still feel pretty if you are wearing a flower garland.

6. The mood of a two year old on a giant pirate swing can go from thrilled to horrified in one swing.

7. Take any kind of meat, spear it with a stick, and cook it and you have a Renaissance meal.

8. Two year old boys may not seem to be interested as they are squirming out of their stroller and rolling on the ground, but they are watching and absorbing everything they see.  After watching the pirate show, Morgan wandered around until he found a stick that could serve as a proper sword.

9. Leprechauns really are creepy. This guy was posing happily behind the kids until the last second when he decided to pretend that he was going to club them.  Wha?!?!?!?

10. When your son says that the flower garland makes you look almost angelic, that will be the best mother’s day present ever.

What a fun day! We used to go to Ren Faire when we lived in Austin. My husband's family has attended for about 20 years. That leprechaun IS creepy.

#7 is my husband's favorite thing about festivas!
#10 is so sweet. You look pretty in the garland!
