No matter the side of aisle, most Americans these days seem to be displeased with the government. Rising gas costs, skyrocketing health care premiums, and unbalanced budgets has left everyone, including me, somewhat disillusioned. By all accounts, as a nation, we seem much more divided than united. But, this week all Americans who are old enough to remember September 11th were unified in the news of the capture and death of one of the greatest terrorists against America.
This announcement has left me with a mixed bag of feelings. On the one hand, I am a fierce proponent of justice, but I am uneasy with the celebratory tone of some. A little Dr. Seuss voice in my head just keeps saying, “A person’s a person, no matter how small (or evil).
But of one thing I am certain. I am proud to be an America. I am humbled at the willing sacrifice of men and women to give me and my family safety and freedom. I am honored to raise my children in a country where, when it is their turn, they will be free to cheer jubilantly in the streets or lower their heads in contemplation. I am grateful that, although there will always be terrorism, there will always be those willing to fight against it. From the bottom of my heart I say God Bless America, land that I love.
I too posted about this very thing. Same take, same feeling.
If we stoop to becoming as small and evil as the enemy, are we any better?
Hate never stops hate, only love can do that.
