When you fly to a ski resort destination, your luggage is already at maximum capacity and that means plenty of STUFF has to be left behind. With four ravenous boys to feed, our vacation budget just does not have room for paying resort prices at every meal, so our extra STUFF usually includes plenty of snacks and food. If we are flying, the first stop is the grocery store to stock up. On our recent trip to Keystone, though, we were flying -with no room to pack food- and then taking a shuttle to the resort, making it impossible to stop for groceries.
In researching options, I happened upon a Breckenridge Grocery Express, a grocery delivery service for Summit County. I almost dismissed the idea as too extravagant immediately, but my dear husband, who is wise and awesome, reminded me that it would be way more expensive to eat or shop in the village and encouraged me to enjoy the luxury.
How it Works?
Breckenridge Grocery Express is a mom and daughter team who shop for their clients like they are shopping for their own family. They make the entire process easy and efficient while adding a personal touch. The order begins by filling out a grocery list on the website. It’s not as easy as you would think to make a grocery list, but an inventory of the most requested items helps to keep you on track. The list allows you to include a note for each item, such as brand or special instructions. Once the order is placed, someone will contact by email to double check your order and ask for any final instructions. They will also ask for instructions for how to gain access to the rental property. In our case, it was necessary to contact the property directly to make arrangements to have our groceries delivered, but they were very accommodating and helpful.
After that, the magic grocery fairies arrived and took care of all the details to make our family comfortable and well fed during our ski vacation. The slight splurge seemed to pay for itself with the thrill of walking into the condo after our flight to see the cupboards and refrigerator stocked.
Cost Breakdown
Breckenridge Grocery Express charges a $35 delivery fee plus a 20% shopping fee. I was pleased to see that the groceries were not overpriced, and we more than made up for the fees by feeding our family in the condo, rather than eating out for every meal.
Was it Worth It?
We arrived late in the evening tired and hungry just as a snowstorm was blowing into the area. A day of packing, traveling, and general schlepping had certainly caught up with me, but the boys needed to be fed-as usual. Looking at the weather, and feeling my weariness, I was so grateful that my cupboards and refrigerator were full of food and there was no need to break out the gear to head into the village to find a restaurant or shuttle to a grocery store. Instead, we grabbed our lovingly stocked s’mores supplies and headed over to the fireplace to enjoy a snack that doubled as a great way to kick off our vacation.

What a great idea! I have done used a similar service at Disney but never thought of this for a ski vacation. I will remember this for my next ski vacation.
