What to Pack in a Cruise Day Pack: What’s in My Suitcase?

What to Pack in Your Cruise Day Pack?: Guest Post from Sarah @ Wandering Off

Waking up on a cruise ship is always exciting. The anticipation of exploring a destination that is right outside your day makes port days feel a bit like Christmas morning. However, port days seem to go by pretty quickly. The last thing you want to do is waste your precious time on dry land worrying about the items you forgot on the ship. Here’s what we pack in a day-bag when we travel via cruise ship:

  • Room keys/cruise ship i.d. cards
  • Passport for each member of the family
  • Cash (but not too much)
  • Debit or credit card
  • Paperwork, if you’ve made reservations for a shore excursion
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Camera
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Towels if swimming or beach-time will be involved
  • Change of clothes for my daughter

A few of the things I leave behind include my usual “everyday” wallet. I’m pretty sure I don’t need my library card or my frozen yogurt punch card while I’m away. Wallets are bulky and bringing them everywhere just increases the chances that something will get lost. I also try to plan port days so that we can avoid driving if possible. That way we can leave the booster seat behind. Another item that I part with on port days is my phone. I don’t need to be making calls or checking Facebook during my day of exploring.

]The most important items to remember are those that are irreplaceable. Sure, if you forget the sunscreen, you can always buy a bottle at your destination. However, being without your passports, digital camera, or other unique items can turn your day into a headache.

Most importantly, remember to pack your patience and sense of adventure!

Hand sanitizer! Brilliant! That is something that I wouldn’t have considered, but I can definitely see as coming in handy. Thanks.
