The Hidden Island of Marina Cay

Family Matters· Featured· Travel Inspiration

26 May

Earlier this week, I explored the marked difference between a vacation and a trip. Those of you with children know exactly what I’m talking about. If I was going to take a vacation, I would want to go back to Marina Cay, BVI. Normally, I wouldn’t have a desire to go back to some place I’ve been before. If you are going to see it all, there is no time for backtracking.

But, Marina Cay will always hold a special place in my heart because it was where I honeymooned with my high school sweetheart over 12 years ago. Because it was an out of the way obscure little island, it was cheap, and that was the ultimate criteria for newlyweds with no jobs. These days, out of the way and obscure are quite desirable qualities for a vacation site, so the prices have increased.

I long to go back to this little 6 acre island and stay in one of the simply decorated rooms surrounded by the sea. Although, I know that it would undoubtedly change this vacation into a ‘trip’, I would love to bring the kids to this little hidden gem so that they can have a first hand look at a place where the story of their family began.

That place looks gorgeous! I'd love to be able to travel more and discover more of the world…ah, someday… We manage a little with one boy–I can't imagine with 4!

New follower from blog hop. Can't wait to read more.
    Cheers.

Islands like that are what I dream about. Wish I was there right now.

That looks incredible. I'm with you on not going to the same place twice. Although, now with child, we have been making some exceptions. I really want him to see Egypt, or example, even though I swore I would never go back there. But my oh my, this place would also get on that list. Looks dreamy.

Gorgeous! You know…instead of making this a “trip” it could be a wedding gift to your kids in the future. They would not necessarily need to do it for their honeymoon, but a chance to go and experience it as a couple with no kids like you did would be really neat!

***I am following you back, thank you SO much for stopping by! 🙂

This place looks amazing. I’d also love to go back to some of the places we visited on honeymoon but not sure how kid friendly many of them would be!

That looks fabulous! Isn’t it interesting how things change? When I was pregnant, I thought about maybe…someday…taking vacations alone with my husband and leaving our child with grandparents or something. Now that he’s here, I couldn’t imagine not taking him along with us to explore the world. Trips it is for us!

You know, before I had my son I was never an all-inclusive or stay-in-one-place kinda gal, but after having brought our 1 yr old to Vietnam and Singapore last month and seeing how much effort it is, a secluded beach and simple hut sound glorious! 🙂

I guess it was a wonderful adventure for the kids. We have something like this here in Germany and we make sure to visit every once in a year. Thanks for linking up to Get Connected Tuesday Blog Hop. Following you.
