I really want to do something similar soon! Looks like you will be passing through my neck of the woods (Indiana). Lots of great family-friendly stuff to do, I would be happy to make some recommendations as you get further in your planning.

We did a big trip like that in Sept – Nov 2009! We called it our MOART – Mother of All Road Trips – and it was FABULOUS! We were on the road 58 days (only 8 of which were in a hotel; gotta love generous Sonlighters!), logged almost 10,000 miles on our Honda Odyssey from our home in San Diego up to Boston, all the way down the East Coast to Florida, then back across. We went on 29 "field trips", made the kids participate in 11 Jr Ranger programs, and made memories for a lifetime! I should have blogged it, but stuck with FB posts instead, unfortunately. What a great trip!

This looks like so much fun! I'm originally from Missouri, so let me know if you have any questions about that neck of the woods.
