Travel Tips Tuesday: Diapering on the Go

Travel Tips

17 Apr

Babies are some the best travelers around-they just need to have full tummies and clean tushies.   Diapering while traveling takes a little more finesse than the average daily outing, however.  Here’s what I stash in my diaper bag for changing diapers on the go.

  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Plastic baggies
  • Medium sized blanket
  • Pull-up diapers

If you always have these things in you diaper bag, then you are one of those moms that I hope to be like when I grow up.  I’m more of an “out of the frying pan and into the spilled milk” kind of mom and I consider it a success if I make it out the house with diapers and wipes.  When I am traveling, I try to be a little more prepared, because you never know what kind of facilities (or lack thereof) you will encounter.

Use the medium sized blanket to protect your little one if a changing table is not available.  Sometimes those pint sized changing pads just aren’t enough!  Use your plastic baggies if you have to make a change and a trash can is not readily available.  Use the pull up diapers for older babies if you have to make a quick change in a tight spot, like a airplane bathroom.  And if you happen to need to change a diaper in the middle of a museum behind the Indian Teepee exhibit, you’ll need every one of these items.   Ask me how I know.

Good advice! I was more of an "out of the frying pan" kind of mom too and we've had to do diaper changes in some strange places. At least changing facilities have improved – 15 years ago we seldom even found a change table in restrooms.  Now you have to spill on the Indian Teepee incident! šŸ™‚

Why did I never think of using a mid-sized blanket as a changing pad!? Do you know how many gross spots I have changed Dek's diaper. Although I did get very good at changing him propped up/standing up šŸ˜‰ A mid-size blanket will be going in my bag for baby #2 for sure though. And yes, I never have wipes where I need them. Why is that?
