Embrace the Cliche~The Leaning Tower of Pisa

Italy

18 Aug

Holding up the leaning tower of pisa, red haired boys,

Among serious travelers there is an emphasis upon traveling off the beaten path and delving into unique cultural experiences.  ‘Tourist’ is the word that must not be spoken. As a family we certainly enjoy doing things that you wouldn’t necessarily find in the guidebook, but we are “guilty” of embracing our inner tourist from time to time.   There are just some things that are so quintessentially a part of certain locales, that they must be done, even if doing them frames you as a foreigner immediately.   If you find yourself in Hawaii, you should make an uncoordinated attempt at the hula.  When traveling to Ireland, pay the guy a few cents to hold your hand so you can kiss the Blarney stone.  And if you are passing through Pisa, stop for  a moment and join the millions of tourists before you and pose for the propping up the tower picture.  In that moment of tourism-own it!  Embrace the cliche!

Love it! That took a lot of patience on all of your parts to get that lined up right. And who cares if we appear as “tourists” now and then or even all the time. At least we are having fun while doing it 🙂

That’s great! I totally agree with you. You need to do the cheesy cliche stuff sometimes. Looking back on my childhood holidays, some of the things I remember best are visiting oversized roadside attractions and trying to take photos of us holding up the Sydney Harbour Bridge. I think in 10, 20, 30 years your boys will love looking at these photos.

We have pictures like that too! As much as we travel we love embracing the cliche’s, not only are they great memories they usually make the best photos!

I love it!!! we saw Pisa while driving on a bus to Florence – it was a tiny tower in the distance – so sad we didn’t have time to stop – we will someday!!

Love the photos! 🙂 We all need our “cheesy” tourist pictures sometimes!

When my boys were little, I did the “cheesy” photo thing and dressed them all in matching outfits for Christmas and Easter a few times. It was just something I had to do, lol! :-)))

    Many blessings,
    Lisa

Of course it’s okay to do the touristy things once in awhile! They wouldn’t be popular if they weren’t fun!

I don’t mind the beaten path during those rare times we get to travel. Thanks for adding yourself to my blog hop on Wednesday. I’m following you on GFC now.

I took pictures similar to these while I studied abroad in Italy in college. I can’t wait for the kids to be old enough to appreciate a trip like this! Hope it was a great time!

I totally agree with you! Sometimes we just have to embrace our inner ‘tourists’ and simply enjoy the cliche! Especially if you’re in a place as beautiful as Italy!!

Following you from Making Friends Monday. Would be great if you can follow me back at http://dosweatthesmallstuffblog.blogspot.com/

    Thank you 🙂
