Some Skills Just Don’t Translate

Family Matters

17 May

I have heard it said that it is bad manners to toot your own horn, but I’ll be ignoring that sage advice to proclaim that I am quite adroit at family travel. Give me any travel situation, any type of transportation, any combination of babies and toddlers, I can take it. Shoes, laptops, backscatters and passports? Piece of cake. 10 hour flight with three kids under five? No sweat. Everything a family of six needs for two weeks in Europe in two bags? I can do it in my sleep. Saturday morning soccer game 10 minutes from home? Epic Fail.

Proving that pride always goes before a fall, I scooted out of the house this weekend with just minutes to spare to get my son to his soccer game. I really thought I had everything we needed for the day, but I was wrong, wrong, wrong. Missing from the mountain of gear was:

Sunscreen. Not ideal for me and my lily white babies, but forgivable.

Baby wipes. Guaranteeing a momentous diaper mid-game.

Water bottle. Nothing that can’t be fixed with a trip to the concession stand.

Folding Chairs. No, really I enjoy standing for an hour with a two year old hanging off my back.

Shoes. Lesson learned to not believe your five year old when he insists he brought his shoes to the car.

Yep, some skills just don’t translate.

Thanks for finding and following my blog! And thanks for the potty training tips, I think I am going to have to try the no diaper route. I loved your post, so funny! I can't handle just one child in the car for 10 minutes but all those kids on an airplane, I would go nuts! I thinks it comes with the mommy territory forgetting things when you most need them! I know I do!
