Travel is an experience that definitely delivers on its advertised promises to introduce new elements that become a part of our everyday life. Sometimes we pick up a new recipe from a far flung country that makes its way into our kitchen. On other occasions we find a cultural celebration that we want to try to recreate. And sometimes, traveling to new places unleashes an obsession for a product we never knew about before, but now can’t live without.
That’s exactly what happened when we first encountered Del Sol Color Changing Products.
We were first introduced to this phenomenon when we arrived at a cruise port in Mexico. What started as an aimless wander through the market ended in total excitement when we reached the Del Sol store. The kids were fascinated, or perhaps a better term would be ‘geeked out’, as they experimented with putting various jewelry, t-shirts, and other apparel under the UV lights and watching them change magically from black and white to color.
There was a big part of me that really didn’t completely understand the draw, but I know my kids well enough to know when they are truly exciting about something. I was going to write the whole thing off as another generation gap, but then I remembered my own fascination with Hypercolor T-shirts. That’s when I gave up any fleeting thought that these products were just a gimmick. Clothes that change color are cool! The kids were right all along.
We left the shop with a few small color changing trinkets, but I made a mental note about the sheer enjoyment the kids drew from the store. Often, I like to buy souvenirs before we travel to save money and get a higher quality item, so when it came time for our next beach vacation, I had the perfect pre-travel presents in mind.

Del Sol for the Whole Family
I knew that everyone would be thrilled with a color-changing T-shirt, and I was happy to find shirts on the website that catered to everyone’s interests. For my five year old, it had to be a Marvel Comics T-Shirt. As a little boy obsessed with superheroes, there is nothing that feels more like having your own superpowers than when you Captain America shirt heroically changes color. For my newly minted certified diver, an underwater T-shirt fit the bill. But, my favorite, is the T-shirt I chose for myself. While I am sure the words “Another Day in Paradise” are truly meant to invoke a day on the beach, for me, they are a reminder that my life with my family is a slightly crazy form of paradise that is my privilege.
Del Sol products aren’t limited to T-shirts. Other choices include jewelry, flip-flops, sunglasses, and even color changing nail polish. Yep, nail polish! For a mom of boys who rarely dabbles in ‘girly things,’ I was pretty excited to grab something fun and feminine for myself.
Before I got too carried away thinking all about me, I noticed that Del Sol also went beyond clothes into the kid approved world of toys. Beach toys, including Frisbees and sports balls are a perfect gift for having fun at the beach with the extra bonus of color changing. For little swashbucklers, they even offer…wait for it…swords that change color in the sun.
Del Sol Beyond the Beach
Before perusing the website, I only had experience with Del Sol products I had seen in cruise ports, so I was pleasantly surprised to see Disney branded color changing items. Favorite characters from Frozen, Cars, and other Disney favorites are featured on T-shirts, hats, backpacks, and hair accessories. If we ever make another Disney trip, I will be stocking up on pre-trip souvenirs once again, only this time we will be sporting Mickey and Minnie.
Another pleasant surprise on the website was the number of products that were on sale, as well as the weekly special offers. Half price and free gifts with purchase are a regular occurrence, making the purchase even more economical.
A Sunny Success
As for our beach vacation, it was a little bit sunnier with our Del Sol souvenirs. One of my kids spent much of his free time running out onto the balcony so he could see the colors change. I certainly never got tired of watching them run out into the sun to watch their shirts and T-shirts change color and then run back to shade to let the colors fade so they could enjoy the experience again.
I’ll admit: I probably had just as much fun as the kids with my color changing gear. As if burying your feet in the sand wasn’t fun enough, it’s even more entertaining when you can watch your toenail polish and flip-flops change colors. Yes, even moms can get ‘geeked out’ by the color changing fun.
