Meet Rachel: Our Newest Travel Contributor

Blogging· Uncategorized

27 Jul

I have always admired photographers, and I am not talking about people who take pictures, but true artists who can capture the beauty and wonder of a fleeting world. These kind of people not only have a talent for the mechanism of photography, but have the rare ability to see beauty in unlikely places and show it to others. That is exactly the kind of talent that Rachel brings to her photography and why I am so glad to have her share her vision as a travel contributor. Let's learn a little bit about Rachel.

Quick! You’ve got 30 seconds before your toddler dumps your bag all over the airport lounge. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.

Hi! I'm Rachel. I thank my military upbringing, where we moved like clockwork every 2-3 years, for giving me the desire to explore, experiment, try new things, and meet others from cultures different from my own. While I have settled and made Denver, Colorado my home that last 8+ years where I'm a full-time children's photographer, the thirst for adventure and travel is ingrained and I try to satisfy that need as much as I can. We are a family that likes a little bit of this and a little bit of that, dabbling in all things from gardening, participating in the active life of raising a 4 year old, to traveling adventures in an Airstream.

Okay, let’s do some easy questions:

Car or Airplane? Airplane

Beach or Mountains? Mountains, hands down.

Carry-on or Checked? Checked – My camera weighs too much to carry on anything else! 😉

Early bird or Night Owl? Early Bird – I'm far more productive in the morning.

Museums or Hiking Trails? Hiking Trails – love the smell of the air while hiking in the mountains

Now, let’s get serious. What’s your favorite trip you’ve ever taken?

As a college graduation trip to me from me, I arranged a trip that took me from Africa to England to Scotland to Germany then to France over several weeks. I had zero desire to return home at the end of that trip.

What is one place you are dreaming of visiting?

New Zealand

If you could pick one quote to sum up your feelings about travel, what would it be?

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, all foes to true understanding. Likewise tolerance, or broad, wholesome charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in our little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." – Mark Twain.
