The signs of Spring are everywhere. Tiny sprouts have pressed their tender heads up from the dirt in my garden. My fruit trees are tipped with bright green buds. Almost overnight, the dead brown grass has been replaced with the luscious shoots of fresh green grass. A quick check of the calendar shows that we have six more weeks left of school. With the end of the year calling, it is easy to allow my mind to wander over our summer vacation plans.
Because we are homeschoolers, we are free to build our school year as it best suits us. Usually, we try to break for the summer at the beginning of May. With the oppressive heat of Texas summers looming, May is a perfect time to get in some good local traveling while the weather is still palatable and the attractions are relatively quiet.
This year, we do not have a major vacation planned, as we are saving both our vacation days and our extra cash for our two month long road trip next year. To help to quell some of my wanderlust, I am planning for us to do some major local sightseeing. Some of these are family favorites and some are places that have been right in our backyard, but we have never made time to visit. I am hoping that making a list will help us to turn planning into fun travel memories.
